Sharpened Image wanted to create a website that would assist them in managing job vacancies and job applications. They specialize in temporary staffing but also have solutions for permanent positions and temporary-to-permanent positions.

Sharpened Image is based in New Jersey, USA. A small temporary staffing solutions company, they wanted to leverage the ease of use of the internet to help manage their business. Although what I provided wasn't really comprehensive, it fulfilled their needs and encouraged applications.

We first had to understand the whole application process, right from when a client wants to post a job to how an applicant gets a shot at an interview. We came to a conclusion that they needed a job board to post jobs, a registration system so applicants can apply for the jobs and a job application database to sort through the applications and choose shortlisted candidates.

The registration process is a lengthy one as it requires the applicant to fill up their personal information, academic qualifications, skills, referees and employment history. Not everyone might have the time to spend filling up the registration form so we allow users to register only by providing their personal information. They can quickly register once they find the site, then come back again once they have the time to fill in all the required details. This way, we won't shun away prospective applicants who were in the middle of something when they logged into the site and have no time going through the application form.
